Let’s take a break, shall we?
We’ve talked inflammation. Protein. Visceral fat. Anxiety. Sleep. Fiber. Fasting. We’ve looked at the gut microbiome more times than some of us have looked in the mirror this week. And yes—those topics matter. They matter a lot.
But today? Today we celebrate something just as healing that doesn’t come in a supplement bottle or need a prescription.
Today we celebrate joy. movement. connection. and the medicine of play.
Scene 1: Cain & Lucy in the Garden of Delight
We begin with a video that one of our readers shared—and it absolutely stole our hearts. It features Cain, our very own Hopium Health mascot, romping around a backyard with his girlfriend Lucy. The two of them are running, hopping, spinning, occasionally crashing into lawn furniture, and doing something humans often forget to do: enjoying the moment.
There’s no structured workout, no timer, no data-tracking. Just play. Just joy. Just movement and love wrapped in fur.
And the truth is, that kind of movement is medicine.
Play reduces cortisol, boosts mood, improves balance (physical and emotional), and helps us socialize in ways we often forget as adults. It’s as good for dogs as it is for people.
Scene 2: The Big Chill Kitchen Dance
Cut to: one of the most iconic scenes in movie history—* The Big Chill*. The kitchen dance. “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” playing, dinner being made, and a group of friends laughing, grooving, swaying, slicing, and sizzling to a Motown beat.
That’s not just nostalgia. That’s healing in motion.
Research shows that spontaneous movement—dancing in the kitchen, shaking off your day, moving your body without rules—can:
- Lower blood pressure
- Improve insulin sensitivity
- Boost endorphins
- Relieve anxiety
- Help reconnect us to each other
And if it happens to involve onions, olive oil, and Marvin Gaye playing in the background? Even better.
Play Is Not Just for Puppies
Movement doesn’t have to be about reps and heart rate monitors. Sometimes it’s about chasing joy. Sometimes it’s about forgetting yourself for five minutes—whether that’s with a dog, a dance partner, or a wooden spoon turned microphone.
Social + emotional movement—play, dance, connection—is underrated therapy. It’s what helps us feel human again.
So this weekend, we invite you to:
- Put on your favorite song
- Invite someone into the kitchen
- Or let your dog take the lead
Because joy is part of the health plan. And sometimes, the best medicine is just… moving your body in a moment that feels like yours.
From Cain, Lucy, and everyone at Hopium Health—keep dancing. Keep connecting. Keep healing.
And if you’ve got your own video to share? You know where to find us.
Stay well,
The Hopium Health Team
